The Business:

Silicon Image designs, develops and markets semiconductor solutions for high-speed digital communications. Our technology is designed for applications that require cost-effective, high-bandwidth integrated solutions for data transmission, such as the local interconnect between host systems and digital displays, high-speed networking and data storage. Silicon Image's current products enable host systems to transmit digital video data and enable displays to receive and manipulate digital video data. The opportunities in this market include for the host systems, PCs, notebooks, set-top boxes, and DVD players, and for the displays, LCD monitors, digital CRTs, projectors, microdisplays, HDTV, automotive, point-of-sales, and plasmas.  Dr. Kim was the first institutional investor in Silicon Image which became the sixth most successful IPO in '99.  The enormous success of Silicon Image proved the model Dr. Kim had been developing of matching  Korean Technology with strong American management to successfully create valuable businesses.

Dr. Lee is the principal founder of Silicon Image. Prior to founding Silicon Image, he was a principal investigator at Sun Labs and in Technology Development at SMCC where he worked on a number of advanced development projects including the development of a high-speed CMOS serial interface technology. Before joining Sun, Dr. Lee spent six years on the research staff at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). While at PARC, he led a number of projects in the development of hardware systems integrating high resolution display technology and high performance computing, including the design and development of LiveBoard, an interactive multimedia whiteboard made of high-resolution LCD panels. Dr. Lee received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley.
